VIADC’s interest is in providing financial support to as many students as possible so while you may apply for more than one scholarship, only one scholarship will be awarded if you are selected.

You must complete the online application located on the Scholarships page at viadc.org 

In addition, high school students will need to submit a transcript, two letters of reference, SAT or ACT scores, if applicable, college acceptance letter(s), and an essay.

College students must complete the application, submit an enrollment verification letter, transcript, essay and two letters of reference.

No. The Robert Finch, Frett-Joseph and Arline Swan scholarships are available for applicants who are high school seniors with acceptance to a college/university or vocational program. The Imani Marley Husbands and Beverly Scatliffe Scholarships are available to current college students.

The award results will be announced at the beginning of May and each applicant will receive notice of whether or not they have been granted an award.

The funds awards are sent directly to the college/university/vocational program to be included in the financial aid package at the beginning of August or prior to the start of the Fall Semester.

The application process for the VIADC Scholarship program involves the launch of the scholarship program, receipt of applications, review of applications by the Scholarship Committee, selection of finalists and the submission of scholarship awards to colleges/vocational schools. 

Share with them your plans for a college or vocational program, provide a resume if possible which highlights your background. Have a discussion about your plans and aspirations. Instruct them to send their letter(s) to the viadc.scholarships@gmail.com

Since references are an integral part of your application, it is important that you check in with your reference writers to ensure that they have completed and submitted their letter. Tip: check in early and on more than one occasion with the reference writer in the event there is an issue and you need to find another individual to submit a recommendation on your behalf.

Review all the instructions thoroughly, establish a plan for creating, collecting and submitting the information needed for your application and follow-up with your reference writers and your school officials to ensure that your transcripts and other materials are submitted on time.

You may submit letters of acceptance from multiple colleges as part of your application. If you receive an award, your acceptance letter will ask you to confirm your final college of choice.

No, you can only apply for the school academic scholarships while you are in your senior year of high school.  If not a previous recipient of the AH or BS book scholarship, you may re-apply.

No, this is a one-time award.

Make sure you are well represented by your application. Proofread your materials and ensure that you have submitted all the information/materials requested.  Have a checklist to confirm that your application is complete

A priority for VIADC is service to the Virgin Islands which is why this scholarship program was created so it is important to learn about and understand each applicants’ involvement with their community.

If you are selected, a headshot along with a signed photo release form will be requested from you. This information will be used in press releases and scholarship announcements. You may also be contacted by the scholarship committee for additional information and we may touch bases to see how you are doing.

To be eligible for consideration a high school student must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Be a graduate of a high school in the US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. Croix or St. John) or be the child of a VIA member (in good financial standing as of April 1, 2021).
  • Plan to enroll FULL-TIME in an undergraduate college or vocational program during the 2021-2022 academic year.
  • Complete the appropriate scholarship application and provide the required documents for consideration.
