Fireburn the Documentary

“Fireburn the Documentary” brings together historians, cultural preservationists and artists to discuss the event known as the Fireburn – a bloody labor revolt that occurred on the island of St. Croix in 1878.

This short film has been made possible in part by a major grant from the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI), with funding provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

“Fireburn the Documentary” was nominated by the International Black & Diversity Film Festival (IBDFF) for Best Short Documentary – By a Black Filmmaker and Best Short Documentary – International.  The documentary is also eligible to win the IBDFF 2021 Viewer’s Choice Award based on the highest number of individually purchased views.  This is how you can help!

For too long we have been forgotten islands in the Caribbean and it’s time to show our history and proud heritage on a global level.  Having said that – we are looking to push this beyond a documentary in ways that will help the economy of the Virgin Islands.”
